I’ve just launched my new hearts collection in time for Valentine’s Day, and I wanted to tell you about the inspiration behind the pieces. I’m an old romantic and I’ve always wanted to design the perfect heart collection, but I was mindful there’s A LOT of heart jewellery out there and I really wanted to put my own spin on it and make it less of a cliché, more edgy but still be delicate and desirable. The inspiration presented itself when some friends asked me to make them a wedding ring to celebrate their love for one another with something unique and handmade.
Ailsa & Ben got married on Halloween in Shoreditch, the bride wore a stunning black dress and they had matching tattoos on their fingers – so it was a very non-traditional, magical, rock’n’roll wedding day (and a lot of fun, I had the hangover to prove it!) Ailsa and I worked together to create something that would reflect their uniqueness, compliment the tattoo and be a reminder and symbol of eternal love – which is how the Love Knot Heart Rings came into existence, a continuous band with a little heart-shaped knot at the top – and she wanted it black so I rhodium plated it.
From there I was inspired to create some deconstructed heart hoop earrings – I’m always aiming to create the perfect hoop earrings with a twist as they’re my go to staple – and the ‘secret heart’ bangles – they form a secret heart shape when the wearer takes it off, but on the arm they look sleek and minimalist and can be worn 3 ways, so perfect for gifting.
I’ve also wanted to design a monogrammed necklace for a long time, as I think personalised jewellery means so much more, so I created the tiny and very cute Heart Initial & Diamond pendant necklaces – so your jewels can be as unique as you are.
What’s your connection with Lee Renee? We’re absolute suckers for a love story or two… and would love to feature you here on the blog!
