She Says: Florence from Petalon Flowers

Lee Preston

Petalon Flowers are a new kind of florist.  A mile away from the wilting bunches you’ll see at a garage or supermarket, they have a rolling weekly choice of two bouquets – made with seasonal and  stunning selections.

As if that wasn’t lovely enough, they deliver all of the orders around London on a bicycle, and donate some of the profits to the Bee Collective, truly a fantastic enterprise, I've used them before and trust me whoever receives these lovely bouquets will be blown away by the quality and the artistry involved.

Hello, we’ve been buzzing(!) to have you on the blog. To kick off, could you tell us, who are the Petalon team and how did you all get here?

There's me, Florence. I founded Petalon along with my husband James. There’s Billie, our flower delivery manager; Alex and Julie, who bunch up bouquets on Mondays and Ash who bunches up bouquets on Wednesdays. And not to forget Marc and Sam our cyclists who deliver all the bouquets!

We all have very different paths that bought us here. Included is a bicycle manufacturing business, being a criminal defence lawyer and event space management among the many other activities our team get up to.

Do you have any advice for people looking to talk to florists about event or wedding flowers?

Choose someone whose style you like, not someone that will do the best price. Also, never make a florist do something that's not in their style as both parties will end up dissatisfied. There's a balance to be struck between a craft/art and a service - and both the bride and the florist need to respect that.

What is the Bee Collective that you support and why did you choose them?

Bee Collective is a dedicated social enterprise that works specifically with and for London beekeepers. They process honey and help promote and sustain urban beekeeping.

I chose Bee Collective because of the fantastic work they're doing for the capital's bees. The cut flower industry isn't too kind on the planet's bees and insects so this seemed like a way to try and give a little back.

Nitty gritty now - what is your favourite flower? (And yes, you have to pick one… or two at most!)

It changes! At the moment I'm pretty enamoured with ranunculus - the usual muted colours are my favourite. There are some incredible Japanese Ranunculus too.

And last of all, which of the Lee Renee collections most appeals to your creative eye?

I'm a sucker for a gold pineapple…

As are we! Alongside our Floral Instagram post, this week has definitely got us in the mood for Springtime fun. Honestly, don’t be surprised if you see me trotting home with several bouquets.
